Akhil is a seasoned private equity professional having raised/managed over US$ 1 Billion across 5 funds. Aside from India, he has also made PE investments in businesses in other parts of Asia and the US.
Since 2009, Akhil is the Founding Managing Partner for the extremely successful Tata Capital Growth Funds. At TCGF he leads a team of 7 investments professionals, focused on making mid-size growth investments across sectors. The success of TCGF lies in being ahead of the curve in identifying “growth inflexion” points across numerous business segments, leading in turn to portfolio companies with “Unicorn” like valuations.
He held Board and key committee positions in Star Health Insurance, Home First Finance Company, Agile Electric, Igarashi Motors and Jana Small Finance Bank (previously Janalakshmi Financial Services)
Apart from his core responsibilities at TCGF, Akhil guides value addition initiatives with a view to optimizing business growth through organic and inorganic means and synergies within the Tata Eco System.
Akhil is a member of Senior Leadership Group of Tata Capital Limited. He is a frequent speaker at leading industry conferences in India and abroad. He is member of the Asia Council, EMPEA , an emerging market focused association. He is a charter member of Impact Investment Council in India. He is also DFID nominee on IC of Neev Fund, an early stage fund focussed on lesser developed regions in India.
Akhil is a mechanical engineer with an MBA from the University of Delhi. He has completed his AMP from Harvard Business School.
He lives and works out of Mumbai, India and is married to Anupama, a practicing Chartered Accountant
