Chris Freund founded Mekong Capital in 2001 and is a Partner.
Chris is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Mekong’s investee companies including F88 (personal lending), Yola (English language centers), Vua Nem (mattress retail), Ben Thanh Jewelry (jewelry retail), Pizza 4Ps (restaurants) and Red Wok (restaurants). Chris has been involved in most of Mekong Capital’s investments and divestments since the establishment of the firm. Chris is a member of Mekong Capital’s Management Committee, Investment Recommendation Committee and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Chris also has extensive experience leading all investment stages from investment appraisal and implementation, value creation and exit.
Chris Freund originally moved to Vietnam in 1994 and has more than 24 years of direct investment management experience, 21 of which were in Vietnam. Prior to forming Mekong Capital in 2001, Chris Freund was a Vice President and Portfolio Manager with Templeton Asset Management, Ltd., the emerging markets arm of the Franklin/Templeton Group.
Chris was also a co-founder of Navigos Group, owner of VietnamWorks.com and Navigos Search, the largest recruitment services firm in Vietnam, which was founded in 2001. Navigos Group was sold in a trade sale to a Japanese recruitment services firm in April 2013.
