Kai Schmitz is a founding partner of Crestone, an Emerging Market Fintech investment firm. He serves on the Board of Minka (an Open Banking Cloud in Colombia), of RS2 (a SaaS payment company in the US) and of Movii (a mobile wallet in Colombia). Kai is a personal early stage investor or advisor of Blockchain companies Kraken, Immutable Insight and Minka.
Until recently, Kai was Investment Lead for the FinTech Investment Group of IFC, where he focused on payment companies and alternative lenders and was regional head for Latin America. He led IFC’s investments in several well-known Fintech companies including Creditas in Brazil, Iyzico in Turkey, Konfio in Mexico, and WeLab in China, and served on the Board of several Fintech companies. Before joining IFC, Kai worked at the Payment Systems Development Group of the World Bank, advising central banks on payment market infrastructure and regulation. Previously, he was co-founder and COO of MFIC, a financial services platform for immigrants from Latin America in the US, and co-founded an FX marketplace in London called Money Systems. Originally a lawyer, he worked at law firms in London and Hamburg.
