Mr. Gupte is a Managing Director and Investment Committee member at Samena Capital, a unique principal investment group that is a partnership between experienced investment professionals and entrepreneurs / business families across the SAMENA (Subcontinent, Asia, Middle-East and North Africa) region. Samena Capital currently manages approx. US$1 billion across regional private equity and Indian credit strategies. He has twenty-three years of institutional experience investing in Global Emerging Markets and Western Europe. He was previously the Founder and Managing Partner of Bombay Central, a co-investment firm advising institutional clients on private market investments in India. Mr. Gupte began his career in 1995 with ICICI Ltd. in its project finance division in Mumbai. In 1997, he joined KBC Bank NV, where he helped build the bank in India; by mid-2000, this became the largest single-branch operation of a foreign bank in India. In end-2000, he joined Adams Street Partners in London, where he was part of the Global Investment Committee and was the Co-Head for Asia. In 2003, he joined Gartmore Private Equity, a division of Gartmore Asset Management and played a material role in growing the business over 8 years, eventually helping create a US$7+ billion AUM global private equity firm, Hermes GPE managing separate accounts and commingled pools for pension funds and insurance companies. In mid-2011, Mr Gupte moved to Singapore to join CVCI Private Equity, a Citibank division and a global emerging markets firm with 75 team members in 7 offices managing c.US$7 billion, as its Chief Strategy Officer and Managing Director and as a member of the Global Management / Investment Committees. Mr Gupte holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance and an MBA (Finance), both from Mumbai University. In addition, he has completed the Investment Management Certificate under the CFA Society, UK and the Executive Program in Private Equity at Harvard Business School. He has been a speaker at several global private market forums and conferences since 2004.
